David Goetz,

American, born 1965

I have been pulled toward art all my life. My first recollections include sketching, drawing and painting the views and experiences of my life.

In my family, especially to my Vietnamese mother, such activities were frivolous and unlikely to lead to success in life. So those energies were suppressed until my adult years.

As an adult, photography became my medium of choice. Recording the events, people and important forces in our lives is a necessary part of our ongoing history, geography and philosophy.

Recently, my work has included printmaking, artist's books, paper sculpture, and oil painting. Several ongoing bodies of work are highlighted here. Each of these will continue to grow as time passes and I add to these experiences. Click on your choice of topic and venture in.

"What is any art but a sheath in which to try to capture that shining, elusive quality which is life itself, hurrying past, too swift to stop, too sweet to lose?"
– Willa Cather
